Writing

In the past year, my classmates and I have written a number of different types of essays to prepare us for the AP exam. One type of essay we have mastered writing this year is a style analysis essay, which is an essay that analyzes an author’s passage. By writing this type of essay, I have developed a better knowledge of rhetorical devices. I have also become a better reader because I can now read with a rhetorical eye.

My writing has enhanced as well since I am now able to weave rhetorical devices into my papers. Ultimately, writing many style analysis essays made my classmates and I more equipped for the AP English Exam.

Syntax is the way in which words and phrases and clauses are deliberately put together to form sentences. Using syntax helps an author make his or her point not only through their words, but also through the way they form their essays. In the syntax short story I wrote for my AP English 11class, I embedded 12 types of syntax that numerous authors commonly use. By constantly using syntax in my writing, like in the short story I wrote for class, I now am developing a personal style in my essays, while also having the understanding of rhetorical devices used in syntax.
